EEA and Norway Grants - Previous phase of EEA and Norway Grants

Scholarship Fund 2004-2009

Fund for Support of Cooperation among Schools/ Scholarships is a programme of the EEA/ Norwegian Financial Mechanisms in the field of education. The fund will make available 2,5 mil euros over the five-year period 2004-2009.

National Agency for European Educational Programmes (NAEP) administers the block grant Fund for Support of Cooperation among Schools/Scholarships.
 

Objectives


The main aim of the Fund for Support of Cooperation among Schools/ Scholarships is to decrease the social and economic disparities in the European Economic Area by fostering cooperation among educational institutions in the Czech Republic and educational institutions in Iceland/ Liechtenstein/ Norway


Actions

Individual mobility grant (IMG)

mobility of students/ teachers/ administrative staff to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway 

studying, teaching, exchange visits, work shadowing, earning work experience, practical placement, course/ seminar/ workshop/ conference attendance, preparation of joint European/international projects

Learning partnershiporganizing of joint seminars/ workshops/ conferences, joint projects, joint publications, joint course delivery and other joint activities including networking
Institutional development cooperation towards curriculum development, human resource development and management of specific activities such as life-long learning, information centre, student centre, staff development etc.

Eligible institutions:  

  • secondary schools
  • higher vocational schools
  • universities and other higher educational institutions
  • non-profit organizations whose main activities are education and training (association of universities, association of schools, association of teachers, association of parents and others)

Eligible individual applicants:

  • either citizens of the Czech Republic
  • or recognized as having an official status of refugee or stateless person or permanent resident in the Czech Republic
  • and must be studying/ teaching/ working at above stated eligible institutions

Only Czech citizens can apply for IMG.

Teacher/administrative staff mobility

Individual mobility grant is awarded to support mobility of Czech teachers/ administrative staff to Iceland/Liechtenstein/Norway.

Types of activity:

  • teaching
  • job shadowing
  • earning work experience, practical placement
  • course/ seminar/ workshop/ conference attendance
  • preparation of joint European/International projects.

The activity must take place in accredited educational institutions in one of the donor states. The duration of the mobility is stated from 1 week to max 6 months.

Receiving institution

Applicants themselves are responsible for finding a suitable partner instituion. The purpose of the mobility is to learn from the experiences and good practices of a partner institution and to improve the skills required for their current job.

Who can participate?

Individual persons applying for support must be:

  • either citizenship of the Czech Republic
  • or nationals of other countries provided that they are either permanent residents or are registered as stateless persons or hold refugee status in the Czech Republic
  • and studying / teaching/ working at stated eligible institutions. 

Teacher/ administrative staff must have employment contract with sending institution and according to present situation will not finish his/her job before the end of staying abroad.

Necessary document

  Teachers have to hand in the following documents:

  • Application form (in Czech)
  • Invitation letter - must be sent by the receiving institution to the applicant (by post or fax), it must contain name of the applicant, date of birth, exact period of mobility, aim of mobility, stamp and signature of receiving institution.

Deadlines

Teachers and administrative staff can submit their applications during whole year, always min. 6 weeks before the planned start of the mobility.

Statistics

National agency will award about 60 individual mobility grants (both to the students and teachers) per year.

Scholarship

Teachers/ administrative staff are awarded a scholarship of 150 EUR/ day. Max. awarded grant is 7000 EUR

  • study materials, books

End of mobility

Each holder of grant must hand in the Confirmation of teaching period, which must be confirmed by the receiving institution. It must contain the exact teaching period and main content of teaching period. The form of Confirmation is here.

Project measures

The Czech EEA/Norwegian Scholarship Fund supports two project measures. The main aim of these measures is encouraging project cooperation between Iceland, Norway and Czech Republic in both higher and secondary education.

Eligible Institutions:

  • Secondary schools
  • Higher vocational schools
  • Universities and other higher educational institutions
  • Non-profit organizations related to education

from Czech Republic, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. No other countries are eligible.

Partnership

  • One institution per Partnership is the "coordinator", the others are "partners". The coordinating institution must be situated in the Czech Republic and it has the overall responsibility for the project and is in charge of relating and reporting to National Agency in the Czech Republic.
  • "Partners" must be situated either in the Czech Republic or in Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway (min. 1 foreign partner required).
  • No other countries are eligible.
 

Application

Formal criteria:
 

  • Application form (must be filled in Czech) is submitted by the Czech coordinating institution to the Czech National Agency
  • Letter of intent from all partner institutions must be enclosed

Selection process is in the responsibility of the Czech National Agency.

 

Financial support

 

  • financial support is awarded only to Czech coordinator 
  • project partners from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway may not ask for support in their home country  
  • BUT all costs related to the project, including mobility costs of foreign partners, can be fully covered by the project budget (international travel to the Czech Republic, insurance, subsistence)

Participating institutions are advised to discuss the costs covered by the project budget before the project start (can be f.ex. stated in the letter of intent).

Deadlines

Call for Proposals 2009 was launched 2.3.2009. Las deadline for submitting project applications was 15.5.2009.

Student mobility

Individual mobility grant is awarded to support mobility of Czech students/pupils to Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.

Types of activity:

  • studying
  • practical placement
  • course/ seminar/ workshop/ conference attendance.  

The duration of the mobility is stated from 1 week to 6 months. In case of bachelor and master students semester study stays are preferred.

Students, who start their mobility in autumn semester, can renew their study stay; the maximum length of the study stay is 12 months.

Receiving institution

Czech students can apply for a scholarship to study at all accredited secondary schools, higher vocational schols and universities/university colleges in the donor states.

Czech students are informed to respect the rules given by particular institutions in Iceland and Norway for accepting foreign students.  

Czech HEI are informed that from the Norwegian side, it is an advantage if mobility funded through the EEA/Norwegian Scholarship and Training Funds is connected to bilateral agreements.

Who may apply?

Students/ pupils applying for scholarship must be:

  • either citizenship of the Czech Republic
  • or nationals of other countries provided that they are either permanent residents or are registered as stateless persons or hold refugee status in the Czech Republic
  • and studying at stated eligible institutions.  

Sending student must be:

  • Matriculate in bachelor`s, master’s or doctoral study programs at accredited Czech higher educational institutions.
  • Matriculate at recognized secondary schools or higher vocational schools.
  • Age limit is 15 years.


The student must be properly registered at stated institution during the whole staying abroad and according to curriculum will not finish studying/graduate before the end of staying abroad.

Necessary documents

Students have to hand in the following documents:

  • Application form (in Czech)
  • Motivation letter (in Czech)
  • Learning Agreement - must be confirmed by the sending and the receiving institution
  • Letter of Acceptance - must be sent by the receiving institution to the applicant (by post or fax), it must contain name of the applicant, date of birth, exact period of study, field of study, stamp and signature of receiving institution. Example of Letter of Acceptance is here. Any other relevant Letter of Acceptance can be used.

Deadlines

Deadlines for academic year 2009/2010

15.5.2009 - autumn semester

15.10.2009 - spring semester

Students have to hand in all above stated documents until the deadline. Selection procedure takes about 30 days. Both applicants and their sending institutions are informed about the results.

Scholarship

Students are awarded a scholarship of 780 EUR/month. This sum should cover expenses for accomodation, local travel and food.

Other eligible costs are:

  • international travel
  • insurance
  • tuition/ course/ registration fee
  • study materials (max. 200 EUR)

End of mobility

Each student is obligate to hand in the Confirmation of study period. The Confirmation must be issued by the receiving institution and must contain list of  passed courses and the exact study period. The form of Confirmation is here.
